CVS Changes Emails...

James Carman
All,

This may be a dumb question, but how do we generate the emails that are sent
when someone checks in a change to our CVS repository?  I was thinking of
maybe instituting something like that at work.  Is it pretty easy to set up?

Try looking at CVSROOT/loginfo, that's the way we do it.

Well, we don't have CVS any more :-).

For subversion, this is implemented as a "post-commit hook". See the
subversion book at subversion.tigris.org for more details.

For CVS, the principle is the same: the server provides the ability to
run arbitrary shellscript after a commit is made and you just put code
in there to build and send an email. Or send an SMS, or set off sirens -
whatever works for you.

Regards,

Simon
