Sandbox - Pending Pipeline Changes

Matt Sanford
Hi all,

     I have several pending JIRA issues that contain patches to
Commons Pipeline [1] I would like to contribute. Most of these are new
features to allow pipelines to run in a production environment more
effectively (statistics, JMX management, etc). Are there any
committers on the list interested in reviewing these? If not, would it
be possible to get commit access to sandbox/pipeline?

Thanks;
   — Matt Sanford

Matt, are you by any chance a committer to any other ASF project yet?

cheers

Re: Sandbox - Pending Pipeline Changes

Hi there,

     Alas, no. I've never had an issue with any other ASF project
where I was in a position to redistribute back to the community.

Thanks;

Not [pipeline] specific, but ...

Note that sandbox components (especially) may not have a lot of
activity -- indeed, one of the reasons something is in Commons Sandbox
could be lack of sufficient activity to "graduate" to Commons Proper.
Sandbox is always unreleased code, and may never see a release. The
bottom of this page has some more:

  http://commons.apache.org/sandbox/

In that sense, it is different from other ASF projects, and I think
that contributes to your observation above.

Matt,

I'd like to look over your changes, but I'm not a committer either. I
looked through the patch for issue 261 and it looked good, but haven't
run it in the project yet.

Matt,

What do you think of adding to the pom.xml

    <dependency>
      <groupId>commons-math</groupId>
      <artifactId>commons-math</artifactId>
      <version>1.2</version>
      <optional>true</optional>
    </dependency>

and using SynchronizedDescriptiveStatistics instead of
DescriptiveStatisticsImpl, which is now deprecated (as of commons-math-1.2)?

Re: Sandbox - Pending Pipeline Changes

Hi there,

     I had forgotten to include the pom.xml. I added that change and
made the other one you mentioned as well.

Thanks;

Re: Sandbox - Pending Pipeline Changes

Your new patch looks good, I would say that it should be committed to
the project.

Thanks,
Ken

I have no cycles to evaluate [pipeline] contributions, but I can get
stuff into the [pipeline] trunk if thats OK. Here is my suggestion, if
you guys are upto it:

Step 0: All substantial contributors sign ICLAs. I know you've done it
already Ken. Matt, please follow this email for details:
http://commons.markmail.org/message/7dvo4xwel4q7rwkb

Step 1: Record consensus in JIRA tickets about which patches need to
be applied (please use JIRA comments if possible so its clearer).

Step 2: I'll try to apply patches where Step 1 is done. Nudge on this
list as needed.

We'll go from there if this sounds OK -- and if so, lets start with
pending item in Step 0.

Thanks to both of you for your work on [pipeline].

Will track it and apply SANDBOX-261 (there appears to be consensus on
that one) when the ASF Secretary records its receipt.
