Tom commented on VFS-304:
-------------------------

Well, it simply is an implementation aspect on either side, so it may very well be that Afresco's FTP service was improved by now to handle compound paths. I did report the issue on both sides. If this is not the case (which I assume), you naturally can try to detect if it's Alfresco you're talking to, or simply make the behavior configurable. Maybe there are other FTP servers with the same issue, so it is not a bad thing to have a "careful" mode.

I figure that this question is motivated by performance considerations, but will replacing (say) 1 CD request with (say) 6 requests really be a big performance hit compared to the already required requests and the actual transfer of data?

> It seems Alfresco's FTP implementation does not allow for compound paths but only works from the current directory. This requires some methods in FtpClientWrapper to be modified.
