[jira] [Created] (DIGESTER-168) Ability to easily extend XML-based definition of rules

ASF GitHub Bot (Jira)
Eugene Fedotov created DIGESTER-168:
---------------------------------------

Summary: Ability to easily extend XML-based definition of rules
                 Key: DIGESTER-168
                 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/DIGESTER-168
             Project: Commons Digester
          Issue Type: Improvement
    Affects Versions: 3.2
            Reporter: Eugene Fedotov

It was relatively easy to extend XML-based definition of rules in the previous versions of the Digester. At least it was possible in version 1.8 through inheritance of the org.apache.commons.digester.xmlrules.DigesterRuleParser (custom parser was able to set customized DTD and to add rules matching custom elements).

It's no longer possible in version 3.2 since org.apache.commons.digester3.xmlrules.XmlRulesModule is package private and final.

Is it possible to make XmlRulesModule more "extension friendly"?

Simone Tripodi commented on DIGESTER-168:
-----------------------------------------

Sounds fair, I am open to open the XML module extension - which is the one I never use.

Patches are welcome!

TIA
