[vfs][all] nightly build changed?

Mario Ivankovits
Hi!

Sorry, looks like I missed something.
Do (or have) we changed our nightly builds? It looks like the
directories below
http://people.apache.org/builds/jakarta-commons/nightly/ are all empty.

Ciao,
Mario

Maybe we could ask to run on a Continuum server?

Chuck Norris sleeps with a night light. Not because Chuck Norris is
afraid of the dark, but because the dark is afraid of Chuck Norris

Did anything ever happen with vmbuild.apache.org?

Hmmm...looks like we need a plan and a volunteer.   I have a little
time this week.  What do we need to do to get an image to use?  Brett?
I guess I could start by trying to get the Ant-based nightlies
working under Continuum (looks doable from the docs - right?), moving
to m2 as the projects do, skipping m1 altogether, since we know that
the Ant-based nightlies should work.  I am a complete Continuum
newbie, but will give it a go if no one else wants to take this on.

I have been following the struts threads on getting nightlies set up
there and it seems there are account issues to deal with.  For
commons, I think we should try to set it up so any committer can work
on the nightlies.  I hope this is possible.

Hi Phil,

thanks Phil, it would be great if you can find some time. Especially for
VFS it is important to have the nightly build, as we have no release to
download.

If you didn't manage to start with this, I'll try to jump in here, but
this might not happen bevor July as I am at the ApacheCon EU.
If have no skills with continuum, but at least strong unix and java
skills ;-)
Hmmmm, maybe some spare time during the ApacheCon ... given I have a
wlan I can help out then too.

This would be great.

Making some progress here, thanks to patient assistance from Brett.
We have a Continuum instance set up on the vmbuild machine and I am in
process of setting the components previously set up for nightlies.  My
plan is to start by just having Continuum do the svn ups and execute
the Ant builds like the old nightlies.  I will add a little script to
change names and scp the results to people.apache.org.  Over time, as
and when things move to m2, the name munging won't be necessary and
(hopefully) we will find a good way to move the artifacts or Continuum
can just do that.  I know the struts people are looking into this.

Sound good?  If I don't hear any objections, I will plow ahead with
the plan above.  Shouldn't take too long.

Famous last words.  After digging into the details of the Ant-based
nightlies and conferring with Craig, I now think that it would be
*much* better, even before the maven 2 move (what? maven 2? ;-), to
use the maven builds for the components that have working "maven dist"
goals.  Given this, I could just as easily execute maven deploy goals
for these to the snapshot repo at http://people.apache.org/repository.
If there are no objections, I will go ahead with this for the
components that have working maven 1 builds.
